Horse Jumps- Easy Glide Horse Jump Cavaletti

Premier Equestrian Offers
“The Easy Glide” - A New
State-Of-The-Art Horse Jump
Cavaletti

Sandy, UT (August 24, 2011)– Premier Equestrian, one of the largest suppliers of dressage arenas, horse jumps, arena footing and stable accessories, is pleased to introduce a revolutionary new product called The Easy Glide Jump Cavaletti. Designed for lounging, cavaletti work or jumping, the Easy Glide is easy to set up and allows the lounge line to glide over the obstacle without catching on the jump or snatching the horse in the mouth.

Evan Hills Wins Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the Utah Dressage Society’s 39th Annual Show

“The Easy Glide is a whole new concept in a cavaletti,” said Heidi Zorn, President of Premier Equestrian. “Our goal at Premier Equestrian is to provide the smartest and best products on the market and we have certainly reached our goal with The Easy Glide Jump Cavaletti. When you are lounging a horse over a jump you don’t want tension on the rope and if you have to flip the rope over the jump so it doesn’t catch, this interferes with the horse’s movement and can actually punish the horse for doing his job. With The Easy Glide, no matter what type of rope or lounge line you are using, it will glide right over the cavaletti.”

The Easy Glide is great for using as a jump or for cavaletti work when riding as well. Molded in cups allow for easy set up and can be stacked with many poles to create a larger vertical or oxer type jump.

Available only through Premier Equestrian, the Easy Glide can be rotated on the ground, which gives many different height options including 8”, 15”, 19”, 22” and 30”.  “Because the cups are molded on the sides, the jump cavaletti can also be jumped from either direction, which is a fantastic option when placing jumps or cavaletti in a ring,” Zorn said.
Riders of all disciplines use cavaletti, whether teaching a rider timing and balance or working on a horse’s balance and rhythm. “Cavaletti are an extremely useful part of a training system and the great thing about The Easy Glide is that it is extremely portable and you can move them easily around your arena,” Zorn said. “If you are using them outdoors in windy conditions, you can also fill them with sand and that weighs them down and stabilizes them.” The introductory price for the Easy Glide Jump Cavaletti is $199 per pair with Free Shipping in contiguous US; more information can be found at: http//www.dressagearena.net/pages/stackers.html.

In addition to offering their innovative Easy Glide jump cavaletti, Premier Equestrian offers a complete line of dressage arenas, dressage arena letters, horse jumps and horse jumping equipment, including jump standards, gates, walls, jump cups, horse jump poles and custom sponsor jumps. Premier also offers YouTube videos, designed for riders at all levels, which provide knowledge relevant to the equestrian world. The complete video library includes cavaletti training with Walter Zettl, jumping exercises with David O’Connor and Dressage tips with Sally O’Connor.

“Premier Equestrian really strives to educate the horse owner. So while we may have developed a great new cavaletti, we also want to teach people how to ride jumps and cavaletti so we offer that service on our Premier Equestrian YouTube channel,” Zorn said, adding that Premier’s YouTube channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/premierequestrian1.

Premier’s products have been embraced by the equestrian community and last year the company supplied the dressage arenas for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, as well as the dressage warm-up arena, driving arena, driving warm-up arena and the flower boxes and dressage letters. “Premier also supplied GGT Footing for the dressage arenas at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center during the World Dressage Masters,” Zorn said. “Proper horse arena footing is a big issue and Premier has the answers to the most often asked questions when it comes to arena footing.”

Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the Utah Dressage Society Annual Show

Evan Hills Wins Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the Utah Dressage Society’s 39th Annual Show

Fairfield, UT (August 22, 2011)– Evan Hills, a dressage rider who trains with Gary Lawrence, recently earned himself a helmet from Charles Owen when he won the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the Utah Dressage Society’s 39th Annual Show, August 12-13 at Millbrook Farms in Fairfield, Utah.  Hills displayed a great attitude throughout the entire show and was constantly asking what else he could do to help the show run smoothly.  This combined with his kindness to fellow competitors and his horse earned Hills the award.

In addition to an excellent attitude toward showing, Hills is also a decorated competitor.  In 2008, he and his horse, Megabucks, were selected to be a demonstration ride for the USDF National Symposium with Kyra Kyrklund; in 2009 the pair were named the ISR/Oldenburg and USDF All Breed Award Junior Second Level Reserve Champions.  The Utah Dressage Society (UDS) 39th Annual Show hosted approximately 200 rides over two days, a far cry from the early days of the Society when ten people signed up on a piece of paper in 1970.  The first UDS Annual Show took place a year before the United States Dressage Federation(USDF) was formed, and so the show committee had to develop their own tests for the event.  This year’s show was held at Millbrook Farm, which is the home training base for Hills’ trainer, Gary Lawrence.  When asked about what makes him such a gracious competitor, Hills replied, “We have a great bunch of youths in this organization and we all try to help each other out and support each other.”

Premier Equestrian, one of the largest suppliers of dressage arenas, horse jumps, arena footing and stable accessories, was pleased to name Hills the Sportsmanship Award recipient at the Utah Dressage Society (UDS) show.  Heidi Zorn, president of Premier Equestrian, congratulated Hills on his attitude and helpful nature.  “We at Premier Equestrian promote safety and positivity by sponsoring the Sportsmanship Award,” said Zorn.  “It’s a wonderful way to acknowledge people who enjoy the sport and are willing to see everyone succeed, and Evan was obviously a great match.  For being such a great sport, Evan earned himself our award and a Charles Owen helmet.  He could not have been a more gracious winner, and cute as can be.”

Premier’s products have been embraced by the equestrian community and in 2010 the company was thrilled to supply the dressage arenas for the World Equestrian Games, as well as the dressage warm-up arena, driving arena, driving warm-up arena and the flower boxes and dressage letters. “In addition to presenting the Sportsmanship Award at the UDS 39th Annual show, Premier was also an arena sponsor.  We enjoy giving back to the riders and societies that support dressage across the country. Premier also supplied GGT Footing for the dressage arenas at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center during the World Dressage Masters,” Zorn said. “Proper horse arena footing is a big issue and Premier has the answers to the most often asked questions when it comes to arena footing.”

2011 Estes Park Arabian Horse Show- Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award

Kara Wintersteen and BB Princess Liyah Take Home the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the 2011 Estes Park Arabian Horse Show

Sandy, UT (August 18, 2011)– With a combination of a warm smile, encouraging comments, a humble attitude, and a striking amount of horsemanship, eighteen-year-old Kara Wintersteen won over the judges and earned herself the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the Estes Park Arabian Horse Show.  She and BB Princess Liyah, a nine-year-old Arabian mare, competed in a variety of classes and whether she missed a class or missed a lead, Wintersteen was never heard to complain, and always gave her horse credit for her winnings.  After having to scratch her morning dressage test due to a delay on the trail course, Wintersteen was given the chance to ride the test at the end of the schedule, just before the halter class was scheduled to begin.  She rode a beautiful dressage test before high tailing it out of the gate to strip off her tack for just in time for the halter class.

Premier Equestrian, one of the largest suppliers of dressage arenas, horse jumps, arena footing and stable accessories, was pleased to name Wintersteen the first Sportsmanship Award recipient as she obviously embodies the key attributes of a good sport.  Heidi Zorn, president of Premier Equestrian, congratulated Wintersteen on her wins and on her lovely attitude.  “Kara is a fantastic competitor and truly puts her horse and her fellow competitors before herself,” said Zorn.  “The show staff here noted how she rode in the Arabian Mounted Native Costume class and then came out and helped one of the other competitors get ready so they could compete.  This is the sort of deed we are looking to recognize with the Sportsmanship Award.”

Wintersteen has owned the purebred Arabian mare BB Princess Liyah, also known as Angel, since 2005, and the duo competed in fifteen classes at Estes Park, winning a third of them.  But placements aren’t Wintersteen’s first priority.  “All I really care about is the ride,” she stated.  “If I can come out of a class knowing we did our best, then that’s fine with me.  Angel was given to me as a hot, unbroken three-year-old when I was only thirteen.  Everything I have done with her has been without the help of a trainer.  We do get beaten, but it’s a learning process.  A good ride is a good ride, but especially so if it’s an improvement on previous rides.”

Wintersteen is a model of sportsmanship, and Angel, a Polish mare bred by Barbara Boodell, epitomized one of the themes of this year’s show: “The Versatile Arabian.”  Demonstrating the amazing adaptability of the Arabian horse, the pair showed in Western Trail, English Trail, Dressage, Halter, Sport Horse Under Saddle, English Pleasure Advanced, Western Pleasure, Western Pleasure Advanced, Barrel Racing, and native costume.

“We congratulate Kara and Angel on a spectacular show, and wish them all the best in the future,” said Zorn.  “We hope that they will enjoy the pair of Roeckl gloves they’ve won, and I encourage Kara to never lose her wonderful attitude.”   Premier’s products have been embraced by the equestrian community and last year the company was thrilled to supply the dressage arenas for the World Equestrian Games, as well as the dressage warm-up arena, driving arena, driving warm-up arena and the flower boxes and dressage letters. “Premier also supplied GGT Footing for the dressage arenas at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center during the World Dressage Masters,” Zorn said. “Proper horse arena footing is a big issue and Premier has the answers to the most often asked questions when it comes to arena footing.”

As the new Vice President of Premier’s Footing Division, Neihart will use his extensive knowledge of arena building, as well as technical knowledge of sand, aggregates and the biomechanical effects of footing on horses, to help grow the arena footing division. “Mark recently returned from the Middle East where he was commissioned to build three equestrian arenas for the President of the U.A.E.,” Zorn commented.

Premier Equestrian’s goal is to double their presence in the footing market within the year. “We have some strong footing products,” Neihart said.  “Along with our proprietary brands ProStride™ and ProTex™ we also are one of the nations largest distributors for Polysol’s GGT Footing product. Our expansion plans call for moving into areas in the West as well as stepping up our offerings for those east of the Mississippi and Canada.”

Premier also offers an array of other footing related products such as Groomers and Harrows as well as the moisture retention additives Hydro-Keep and Magnesium Chloride flakes. “In addition to the outstanding product lines we already offer, Premier is adding significant new lines of product, all aimed at the small-farm, equestrian products market space,” Zorn said. “We are currently producing new molds for a variety of different jumping and dressage arena products. These products are designed by professional riders and engineered for heavy-duty, outdoor use. Our mission is to promote a lifetime of safe riding and we personally see to it that the products we produce are safe, durable, and will make a difference in your riding experience.”

We want this to be the place riders go for information about their horses, riding tips and arena information.” Premier videos can be found on the channel PremierEquestrian1 at YouTube.com.

Premier has also added new manufacturing capabilities to it’s already sophisticated fabrication operation, managed by Chris Neihart. The company has expanded and upgraded and now can produce full-feature custom sponsor theme jumps. These capabilities include life size 3D statues of sponsor products, custom cutting and routing with full color graphic horse show jumps. This new capability will provide excellent advertising opportunities for a variety of different companies and products. Premier has already provided these custom jumps for a variety of clients.

Premier Equestrian, a privately held company based in Sandy, Utah, currently has distribution in the United States, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands. “With so much expansion going on, we have also added Drew Gilliland, Attorney at Law to our team. Gilliland has recently acquired a partnership position in Premier Equestrian and will serve as company attorney. Riding arena footing - Horse arena footing

Riding arena footing

Horse arena footing

Arena footing

Footing Facts
The right riding surface starts with understanding the complexities involved.

Fines, Masonry and Concrete Sand. Please keep in mind every quarry across the country will have different names and types of sand.
Be sure to use specifications and sizes to determine what sand you will need and not the local names. Although "Concrete Sand" and "Masonry Sand" are fairly standard specifications as to grain size.
"Arena Sand" could mean anything.

Arena footing plays a huge part in every horse's performance and soundness. If the arena footing is hard, the horse will shorten its stride to minimize jarring or adversely modify his jumping form to avoid the sting of landing. Hard footing will also stress his joints. If footing is too soft and rolls away under the hooves, it will cause strain to his soft tissues – tendon, ligaments, and muscles. If the footing is slippery, or insufficient so that the hooves penetrate to a slippery base, the horse may fall or feel insecure and move cautiously. Good footing is safer for your horse and boosts his confidence and performance.

To help our readers understand the many complexities of what constitutes good footing, Premiere Equestrian provides this primer:

Footing Properties

When you walk on a beach, the dry sand above the high tide mark has no traction, rolls away underfoot and is tiring to even walk over. The damp sand in the middle feels cushiony, yet is supportive with good traction, while the wet compacted sand at the wave line can actually feel hard with minimal give underfoot.
With arena footing, we strive for that happy medium of cushion and traction to help our horses perform their best and stay sound.

Rolling vs. Stabilized Footing

Particle shape is the first of several factors that affect footing particle stabilization. The shape of the footing particles affects stability underfoot - whether the footing will roll (round particles), compact and become hard (sharp particles) or provide cushion and stability (angular particles). Angular particles offer some resistance to movement between them, preventing rolling, but permit enough give for a cushioning effect.

Particle size is the next factor. Footing that contains particles very close in size and that have been washed of all fines, silt and clay will be less stable and more likely to roll under hooves than footing with a moderate range of particle size. Extremely washed cleaned sand can cause a rolling effect.

Watering plays a part, too. An intermolecular attraction is formed between water molecules that acts to hold wet sand together and can help stabilize rounded sand footing that would otherwise roll if dry.

"Fines," including clay, silt and organic matter, will hold moisture for a longer period of time, however these fines will become dust when completely dried out.

Hard vs. Cushion:

Each discipline has its own requirements for the amount of give and rebound that enhances optimal performance. The firmer footing with good traction that helps jumpers safely push off may not have enough cushion to preserve the joints of an aging dressage horse, while arenas needing all-around capabilities cannot be specialized to either extreme. Understanding the needs of the arena will help you make the proper selections in sand and additives.

Sand 101

Sand is defined by its size rather than what type of mineral it is. Particle size or grain size refers to the diameter of a grain of granular material. Technically, particles that fall between one-sixteenth of a millimeter to two millimeters in diameter are referred to as "sand." Most sand producers will have a technical data sheet available for the types of sand they sell. Having this information will help you to determine what type or size of sand you will want for your
arena footing.

Why is the right sand so important? Sand is the key ingredient in all good arena footing. However, not every sand is suitable for riding arenas.

Many factors contribute to the performance of an equestrian arena. A proper base, ability to water, maintenance and grooming equipment, type of sand, along with footing additives, will all contribute to how your arena performs. Just adding a footing amendment may not solve all your issues. However, adding the appropriate footing additive to certain types of sand may enhance the quality and life of your arena immensely. Old, broken down, dusty sand arenas may be renewed with a textile such as GGT-Footing. Textiles will minimize compaction, while stabilizing sand particles, and deliver cushioning and energy rebound. Hard compacted surfaces will improve greatly by adding a rubber type footing, such as ProStride Arena Footing. Rubber prolongs sand life by minimizing sand grain breakdown. It will also lessen compaction and provide cushioning in arenas that contain crusher fines, stone dust or manufactured type sands.
