Premier ProTips with Todd Minikus

We're excited to share a ProTip video from our visit to Todd Minikus' farm in Wellington, FL. Todd used a variety of jumps from the Premier PolyPro and Burlingham Sports lines to set up a full course. Heidi Zorn walked the course with him, then he rode a gorgeous gray mare. It was an exciting, informative, and fun day.

Jumps like the culvert wall, skinny gate, roll top, liverpool, and rock wall were featured and Todd provided so many useful tips and information. He talked about jump materials, course design strategies, training young horses and riders, using what's used in the show ring at home for training, and lots more.

Watch the full video below. Visit horsejumps.net for information about theses jumps.

Minikus has won the American Grand Prix Association Budweiser Grand Prix of Indianapolis five times, the 2001 Rolex/U.S. Equestrian Team Show Jumping Championship, and competed on six Nation's Cup Teams and in five FEI World Cup Show Jumping Finals. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, he served as the Alternate for the U.S. Equestrian Team Olympic Show Jumping Squad.  He recently won the I Love New York Grand Prix with Babalou 41 in June, and during week three of the 2014 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival, Minikus and Quality Girl was one of the winners in the $34,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup Round 3. Concluding the 2014 competition, Minikus and Babalou 41 won the $100,000 Suncast® 1.50m Championship Jumper Series Final.

Minikus keeps a busy schedule, competing regularly while training approximately 25 horses, green to grand prix. He enjoys working with horses at all ages and experience levels.  He and his team were thrilled with Premier’s jumps.  “Our Florida farm has harsh climate conditions, and it can be brutal for our equipment,” said Minikus.  “Wood jumps rot and mold grows within days.  Aluminum jumps are pricey and heavy.  The jump equipment we received from Premier is ideal: very durable, safe, and maintenance free.  Their product has restored our faith in PVC jumps!”

Author Mark Neihart Hosts Debut Party for The Horse Angels

Author Mark Neihart Hosts Debut Party for The Horse Angels

Sandy, Utah (June 16, 2014) – Just in time for the summer solstice, author and Premier Equestrian CEO Mark Neihart will be debuting his first work of fiction, The Horse Angels, at a book release party Saturday, June 21.  This newly released equestrian saga details a woman’s journey to save the age-old relationship between human and horse.

Set to take place at the Premier Equestrian product testing facility from 7pm-10pmThe Horse Angels release party will feature a reading by Neihart, as well as a discussion on his inspiration for the story, characters, and why he decided to tell this story.

Neihart started writing his book in 2010, and originally it detailed the history of mankind and horses, the premise being that man progressed through the ages on the back of a horse. More of a documentary style read, Neihart took the advice of an editor to transform the story into a work of fiction, featuring fast paced action, romance, government corruption, and of course, lots of horses.

The central theme in The Horse Angels is the relationship between horse and man. “It’s what motivates many of the characters. A hundred and fifty years ago it was the horse pulling the cart. Today, we see the Chevy Suburban pulling the horse within the trailer. This is the perfect symbol of our collective love and appreciation of the horse as well as an apt symbol of our gratitude.”That ancient bond is the core of The Horse Angels, a story about an endangered herd of wild horses and the people sent to protect them.

“I hope readers will be entertained and taken away to a different place,” says Neihart.  “I wanted to underscore how hurtful and damaging rough handling is to horses, and how a harmonious approach is mutually beneficial. Mostly, I hope readers come to have a deeper understanding of how remarkable the relationship can be between horses and people.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear straight from the author how a book came into being, and how he seamlessly drew upon his experiences with legendary horsemen and women like Walter Zettl, Pat Parelli, and Linda Parelli to bring The Horse Angels to life.

For more information on The Horse Angels and the book release party, visit the event’s Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/events/648627565215773, or the Premier Equestrian website at www.TheHorseAngels.com or call 800-611-6109.

Premier Equestrian CEO Mark Neihart Pens and Publishes The Horse Angels

Premier Equestrian CEO Mark Neihart Pens and Publishes The Horse Angels

Sandy, Utah (June 11, 2014) - Mark Neihart loves horses. More than that, he’s fascinated with the age-old relationship between man and horse. As the CEO of Premier Equestrian, he’s surrounded by the horse culture, but he’s not just in the business. It’s much deeper and more personal.

Mark started writing his book in 2010, and originally it detailed the history of mankind and horses, the premise being that man progressed through the ages on the back of a horse.

“I finished it, and it was pretty boring,” Neihart admits. “It was more like a dull documentary. Then in 2011, a friend suggested I write a dramatic story using the factual information as the core of the story. Once my editor got involved we ditched all the remaining boring parts. It turned from a documentary into straight fiction. It’s a story which has something for everyone: fast moving action, romance, government corruption, and, of course, horses.”

What Neihart kept as the central theme in his book was the relationship between horse and man. “It’s what motivates many of the characters. A hundred and fifty years ago it was the horse pulling the cart. Today, we see the Chevy Suburban pulling the horse within the trailer. This is the perfect symbol of our collective love and appreciation of the horse as well as an apt symbol of our gratitude.” That ancient bond is the core of The Horse Angels, a story about an endangered herd of wild horses and the people sent to protect them.

A brief synopsis; News reporter Anne Harper is called to investigate rumors of a dwindling herd of mustangs. She takes her daughter Samantha and heads up to the Angel Ridge horse rescue ranch where the two get caught up in a decades-old family feud. She meets Nolan Powell, a quiet, brooding horsemen with a secret. The drama unfolds as true nature of the relationship between horse and man is revealed. Fast paced, compelling, and heartfelt. The Horse Angels is a book for every horse lover.

Neihart enjoyed dramatizing the relationship people enjoy with their horses. He depicts this as a mystical, almost magical element in The Horse Angels. He says he based it on the observations he made watching horsemen like Walter Zettl and Pat Parelli.

“When my company was making the video series, A Matter of Trust, about Walter Zettl, I followed him around for five years, observing him,” says Neihart. “His classical dressage technique utilizes the horse’s natural abilities. I learned how important it is to always be soft, kind, with no force.  Through Walter, I met Pat and Linda Parelli and my education continued. The Parelli’s are leaders in the Natural Horsemanship movement. They showed me how respect for the horse and seeing things from his point of view is the basis of all good training. There were my beginnings; many other world-class horse trainers have come into my life since then. I have been very fortunate.”

As CEO of Premier Equestrian, Neihart gets to live this philosophy everyday. “Premier Equestrian was built around our primary passion for loving, training, and riding our horses,” says Neihart. “Every product we sell is measured against this passion for safety, practicality, and the well being of the horse.”

Mark and Heidi-Zorn Neihart live in Granite, Utah with their three horses, Sting, Serrano, and Isabella. Horses are central to their lives, both professionally and personally.

Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award -Rider Pam Hardin

Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award Makes AGDF10 CPEDI3* Rider Pam Hardin “Feel Like a Winner”

Wellington, FL (March 21, 2014) - Grade 4 para-equestrian Pamela Sue Hardin of Evans, GA, could have let the odds to beat her, but instead, after accepting the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award for week ten at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, FL,  she told CEO and founder, Heidi Zorn: “I feel like a winner.”

Pam Hardin and Premier Equestrian

Hardin, who trains with Melanie Mitchell of Johnson, SC, was born in New York City but confesses to a lifelong love of horses.  “Obviously, I was born with some health issues, but that never stopped me from wanting a horse.  Only you really couldn't manage that,” she laughed, “from a six-floor walk-up apartment.”

Which, in comparison, made a few hurdles en route to Wellington nothing Hardin couldn't handle.  “We had some issues over passports for Monty's owner in Germany, then we faced some bad weather, and then when we got here, there were forms my neurologist had to complete last-minute.  To reach him, I had to message him on Facebook!”  She laughed again.  “WhoFacebooks their neurologist?”

The “Monty” she refers to is Freemont, a 15 year-old, 16.3 hand chestnut Hanoverian (Foxhunter x Andrea) gelding she has been leasing since January from owner Nadege Soubassis:  “I've never been on a warmblood and certainly nothing as big as this. He's awesome!” Hardin said of her perfect partner to join her competing in her first-ever CPEDI3*.

“He has the most giving personality. When you ride as a para, there are things that go along with that for a horse, and he just goes with it.  He tries. I don't always ask the right way but he hits it anyway.  He's great!  We just want to compete in our three classes and have a blast. This couldn't be more fun,” she said, referring to their FEI Para Grade IV Team, Individual and Freestyle tests.

As Zorn presented Monty with his tricolor neck ribbon, the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award winner accepted her gift certificate and hardcover copy of Ask Walter, the classical dressage training bestseller by German Gold medalist, Walter Zettl, available through Premier Equestrian.

“Your smile and infectious enthusiasm have lit up the showgrounds all week,” Zorn praised Hardin. “Your joy for riding and being with horses is so obvious.  You're everything this Sportsmanship Award is about!”

“How can I not be happy?” Hardin replied. “How can I not be thrilled every single minute, no matter what goes wrong?  This is the culmination of everything I've ever wanted.  Thank you for this award. I do feel like a winner.”

For over a decade, professional horsepeople have trusted Premier Equestrian for affordable arenas built from PVC and other quality materials, as well as footing, stadium fences, barn and stable equipment, gifts, books and DVDs. Premier Equestrian is proud to named the Official Dressage Arena supplier of both the USEF and Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) presented by Gotham North.

Premier Equestrian Named Official Dressage Arena of the USEF

Premier Equestrian Named Official Dressage Arena of the USEF and the Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships presented by Gotham North

Wellington, Fla (March 14, 2014) - Premier Equestrian is proud to announce its sponsorship of the USEF, as well as being named the Official Dressage Arena supplier of both the USEF and the Adequan FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) presented by Gotham North.  Already one of the largest suppliers of dressage arenas, horse jumps, arena footing and stable accessories in the country, Premier Equestrian continues to support top equestrians.

Dressage Arenas

Premier Equestrian is the Official Gold Sponsor of the NAJYRC and is the official dressage arena of the USEF and the Adequan FEI NAJYRC to be held July 15-30, 2014 in Lexington, Ky, and will also continue this sponsorship with the NAJYRC through 2015 and 2016.

“The United States Equestrian Federation is honored that Premier has chosen to sponsor the NAJYRC,” said USEF CEO John Long.  “With Premier’s attention to detail and use of quality materials, we could not think of a better partner and look forward to and appreciate its continued support of the USEF.”

Premier Equestrian is known for its dressage arenas as it provided the dressage arena equipment for some of the most prestigious shows in the United States, including the new Global Dressage Festival in Wellington as well as for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, Dressage at Devon, Del Mar, and the 2013 US Dressage Finals. Premier Equestrian will also be featured at the NAJYRC as the official dressage arena of the USEF, US Dressage Finals, and the Global Dressage Festival.  Premier’s website offers a complete line up of equestrian equipment, including everything needed to create a beautiful, world class dressage arena, from footing to letters.

Dressage Olympians Debbie McDonald and Adrienne Lyle turned to the professional footing specialists at Premier Equestrian to solve a 20-year-old footing issue. River Grove Farms, owned by Peggy and Parry Thomas in Sun Valley, Idaho, was built in 1981 and has four full sized arenas.

In July 2013, Premier Equestrian was called upon to solve the footing issue for these Olympic athletes in an unconventional way. The arenas were already equipped with a sufficient base and sand but were in need of a makeover. After a sieve test analysis was done on their existing sand by Premier’s staff, Premier Equestrian determined that the low cost and highly effective solution would be to add the ProTex footing to the existing sand surface. This solution was a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire footing; Premier was able to completely revitalize River Grove Farms’ arenas and provide exceptional footing for these International dressage competitors.

Heidi Zorn, President of Premier Equestrian, LLC stated, “Through our sponsorship with the USEF we hope to continue to bring the best products in the equestrian industry to prestigious competitions and to continue to support riders as they show and train.”

“Whichever Premier product you choose, your equine athletes will be performing with the best!” assures Zorn. “Our philosophy of always providing ‘premier’ products at the best possible price to the consumer works well in these times when horse owners want to cut expenses without giving up quality or jeopardizing their horses’ safety and well-being.”

Considered America’s leading manufacturer and distributor of equestrian arenas, Premier Equestrian’s website offers extensive and informative information designed to help horse owners understand the differences in arenas as well as arena footing. Premier Equestrian also offers a complete line of horse jumps and horse jumping equipment, including horse jump standards, sponsor jumps, and cavaletti. Other Premier products include barn accessories, books & DVDs, as well as arena grooming and maintenance equipment. For more information on all Premier Equestrian products, including footing, dressage arenas, jumps and stable accessories, visit their website at www.PremierEquestrian.com or call 800-611-6109.

Getting it Right: Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award Winner Jennifer Marchand

Adrienne Palm Beach Derby Freestyle Winner

Wellington, FL (March 7, 2014) - Premier Equestrian is proud to congratulate Adrienne Lyle on an outstanding show at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI, held February 28-March 2. On Friday, she and Wizard, a 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Peggy Thomas, placed second in the FEI Grand Prix with a score of 71.980%. They bettered that on Saturday night, winning the FEI Freestyle Grand Prix with a score of 76.525%, which is their second highest score to date and also was a qualifying score for the 2014 Reem Acra FEI World Cup Final.

It's been some time since Lyle and Wizard have attempted the FEI Grand Prix Freestyle, as they spent most of 2013 off, but it was evident that both rider and horse were happy to be riding their test in a Brentina Arena, which is supplied by Premier to the Global Dressage Festival.  Lyle and Wizard also had an impressive show the week before riding for the USA in the Nations Cup; they helped push the team to Gold and were the Individual Gold medalists after winning the Freestyle.  And it can be said that Lyle had a ‘home court advantage,’ as her trainer and mentor Debbie McDonald’s famous mare Brentina is the arena’s namesake and inspiration.  Lyle and Wizard’s home training arena is also a Brentina arena from Premier.

"I was thrilled with my freestyle at the Derby," Lyle said. "He actually felt super rideable, probably the most rideable he's felt in a freestyle. He felt powerful and expressive, but he still stayed with me. I love my music. It's fun, it's exciting, it gets the crowd going. When he gets out there, and the crowd's whooping and hollering, he builds on that and I do too, and I just think it's fun to ride to!"

The rails snap into each base and will release upon any force or impact providing the ultimate safety for horse and rider. The sleek 2-sided European design combined with the durability, the quick release safety design, the stability, and the portability of the Brentina Arena immediately attracted the attention of dressage professionals and show managers.”

Premier Equestrian Introduces SandAid Horse Arena Stablilizer

Premier Equestrian Introduces SandAid

Horse Arena Stablilizer

Sandaid Horse Footing Stabilizer

Salt Lake City, UT (March 6, 2014- To promote the best possible performance and safety for horses, good equestrians consider all factors that contribute to their rides; starting from the ground up. Premier Equestrian—a Utah-based company that manufactures and distributes dressage arenas, arena footing, and hundreds of other equine-related products—knows that success in the ring depends on everything from the rider on the horse’s back to the grains of sand beneath the horse’s feet. Premier Equestrian’s new product, SandAid, is a horse arena stabilizer meant to make all types of arena sand as effective and safe as possible for horse and rider teams.

SandaidSandAid improves the structure and sturdiness of the sand grains in an arena with the a special blend of Nylon and Polyester fibers. What makes SandAid unique is that it will mix with every type of sand.  Many footing additives will only perform with certain types of sand.  SandAid is a great solution for existing arenas that need an upgrade, but don’t possess ideal sand.  SandAid mixes into arena sand and will help prevent the arena from drying out. One of the great components of SandAid is it’s Nylon component.  Nylon will absorb water then release it back into the footing as it dries out.  This will greatly reduce the need to water arenas.  SandAid can stabilize loose and rolling sand particles as well as add cushioning properties to the footing. Premier Equestrian sees this product as an excellent way for people to improve their arena’s footing without having to deal with the cost and hassle of completely replacing it.

SandAid is gentle on hooves, so it’s great for barefoot horses. It also helps prevent horses from slipping or from suffering too harsh of an impact when their hooves meet the ground. Using this product helps reduce dust in the ring, and it will work with any type of sand.  Premier Equestrian proudly advertises SandAid as “Made in America”, as is nearly every product they offer.

Premier Equestrian recognizes that arena footing is most effectively used when it is tailored to the needs of a particular arena. The traffic that an arena experiences and the main function of an arena are just two of the factors used to determine what type of footing is most suitable. Premier Equestrian offers free sand analyses so riders can become more informed about the properties of their footing and how it can be improved.

Since the company’s beginning in early 2000, Premier Equestrian has risen to a leading position in the industry of equine arenas, footing, and related products. The related products include dressage arenas, dressage letters, training obstacles, horse jumps, riding apparel, books, and DVDs. Premier Equestrian Introduces SandAid

Premier Equestrian Introduces SandAid

Premier Equestrian products such as footing and dressage arenas have appeared in the 2010 World Equestrian Games, the Del Mar National Horse Show, and the World Dressage Masters. Gary Vander Ploeg Crowned Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award Winner for Stillpoint Farms CDIO Nations Cup
Wellington, FL (February 27, 2014) - “You have to laugh at least a few times each day,” said Dutch Grand Prix rider Gary Vander Ploeg, whose winning smile and attitude earned him the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award after his performance in the Stillpoint Farms CDIO Nations Cup Grand Prix at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida.

Vander Ploeg rode Degas, a 15 year-old Oldenburg (Donnerhall x Pretty Lady) gelding, co-owned with Jean Vander Ploeg, that he has trained through the levels since the 17-hand bay was just four year-old prospect.

“It's been a tough winter,” said the Toronto, Canada horseman. “Between ice storms and bad weather, it was tough getting to Florida and it took time to acclimate. But the weather has been getting better and so have the horses.
“I've had the good fortune of seeing alot of the world, but Wellington? This is an absolutely all-in-one, world class facility that can't be beat.”
“When you reach the top levels of international competition, you not only expect the best, you deserve it,” said Heidi Zorn, president of Premier Equestrian. One of the world's leading names in equestrian arenas and footing, Premier Equestrian is the Official Dressage Arena of the USEF, North American Young Riders, and U.S. Dressage Finals.
In addition to presenting a tricolor neck ribbon to Degas, Zorn gave the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award winner a gift certificate from Premier Equestrian, and hardcover copy of Ask Walter, the latest book on classical dressage training for the horse and rider written by German Gold medalist and author, Walter Zettl and available through Premier Equestrian.
For over a decade, professional horsepeople have come to Premier Equestrian for affordable, quality arenas built from PVC and other topnotch materials, as well as footing, stadium fences, barn and stable equipment, gifts, books and DVDs.

Some of the world's top dressage and combined driving horses have performed on Premier Equestrian surfaces, including at the 2010 World Equestrian Games and Del Mar National and World Dressage Masters.

Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award Winner for AGDF5 Sahar Daniel Hirosh Delivers a Classy Ride

Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award Winner for AGDF5 Sahar Daniel Hirosh Delivers a Classy Ride

Wellington, FL (February 17, 2014) - As one of the leading names in arenas and footing, Premier Equestrian understands that the first step inside the show ring doesn't belong to the rider: It's taken by the horse. So when Sahar Daniel Hirosh praised his partner, Classy Sinclair, before himself, after their Open Fourth Level Test 1 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center during AGDF5, it resonated with Premier Equestrian president, Heidi Zorn.

Sahar Daniel

“The horse was fantastic.  He's a homebred that I've known since he was born.  He was a little hot on the changes but overall, a very good ride.  With hot horse you learn to ride not just the physical body, but also the soul and mind,”  Hirosh said of the bay 16.1 hand Oldenburg stallion by Sandro Hit, and owned by Lisa Grossi. Between Friday and Sunday, the Israeli dressage rider continued to coax that mind/body harmony, bringing the horse along from a 66.714% on Friday to a 68.571% by Sunday.
“That's why he's worthy of this Sportsmanship Award,” said Zorn. “He praised his horse first, which is the way it should be.  This Premier Equestrian award is our way of trying to recognize the people who are partners with their horse, because that partnership is what dressage is all about.”
In addition to a classy tricolor ribbon for Classy Sinclair, the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award winner received a generous gift certificate from Premier Equestrian, and a hardcover copy of Ask Walter, the latest book on classical dressage training for the horse and rider by German Gold medalist and author, Walter Zettl.
For more than a decade, Premier Equestrian, the Official Dressage Arena of the USEF, North American Young Riders and U.S. Dressage Finals, has offered horsemen and women affordable quality dressage arenas built from PVC and other top materials, including dressage arena packages, as well as footing, horse jumps, barn and stable equipment, and gifts, books and DVDs.
Premier provided the dressage and driving arenas for the 2010 World Equestrian Games and its Arena Footing is installed at The Del Mar National and World Dressage Masters.  Request a free catalog, free arena footing sample or free arena sand analysis by calling (800) 611-6109 or visiting www.PremierEquestrian.com.
