Premier Equestrian - Sportsmanship Award
Devon Kane of Diamante Farms Wins Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award at the 2011 Great American/USDF Region 3 Dressage ChampionshipsOcala, FL (October 18, 2011)– Devon Kane of Diamante Farms arrived at the Great American/ USDF Region 3 Dressage Championships in Ocala with high hopes for her three competing horses. She soon discovered, however, that due to a glitch in the computer system, her entries had been misfiled and no stalls had been assigned for her horses. While this may have been the end of the road for most, Kane kept a positive attitude, and once the issues were resolved, went on to win quite a few ribbons. This positive attitude and outlook earned Kane the Premier Equestrian Sportsmanship Award and a gift certificate for a Charles Owen helmet. The Sportsmanship Award is presented at selected equestrian events throughout the country and is designed to recognize a rider whose positive attitude, helpfulness, and sportsmanlike conduct sets them apart. The Region 3 Championships were held in conjunction with the Deep South Dressage and Combined Training Association (DSDCTA) at HITS Post Time Farm in Ocala, Florida. | ![]() |
“I called my trainer, Michelle Gibson, in tears,” Kane said. “She helped to calm me down when I first heard about the mix up. Then I just decided to have faith that everything would work itself out and kept my outlook positive.” Kane and her Dutch Warmblood Prins went on to win the Intermediaire 2 Championship with a 62.947%. Kane and Sanchez, a six-year-old, won the 3rd Level Championship with a score of 68.462%. Destiny, Kane’s Prix St. Georges mount, earned a 72.105% to come in second in the PSG and in their Intermediaire 1 debut, Kane and Destiny scored a 69.474% to win the class. No doubt Kane’s positive attitude in the face of lost entries and no stabling contributed to her success.
